Overhead power lines going north from the Harker Sub Station are being upgraded. This work will include the installation of three additional wires along the current route on the empty arms of the existing pylons which will create an additional electricity circuit.

The main construction work will take place this year, between April and October 2025, with the majority of works taking place between Harker and Gretna from April to June, and between Harker and The Border (via Longtown) from June to October. Further related work will take place in 2027.
Usual working hours are 7:30am to 7:30pm Monday to Friday, but due to the nature of the work, and to maintain progress by taking advantage of the lighter evenings, work may continue until slightly later. We will also be working most weekends; however, our work is unlikely to be noisy or cause disruption to our neighbours.
During this time, you may see an increased level of activity around the route, with additional vehicle movements during some periods of the construction programme. There will be traffic management measures in place, appropriate road signage will be installed notifying you of the works and construction traffic. We will work to minimise any disruption caused by our works and our contractor will make sure any disturbances from noise are kept to a minimum.
