Reporting Back Border, Fellside and North Carlisle Community Panel September 2026

The Border, Fellside and North Carlisle Community Panel met on Thursday 3 September at Belah Community Centre in Carlisle. The Panel brings together the councillors for the seven wards in our part of Cumberland, including Longtown Ward, and decides how local community funding is spent. Here are the main points, particularly those affecting Longtown Ward.

Funding for Longtown

I was pleased to support an application from Arthuret Parish Council for £1,144 from the local Longtown Ward allocation, towards an accessible pathway from Lochnivar Close to the play area.

North Cumberland Speed Limit Review

The Panel discussed its response to the informal consultation on the North Cumberland Speed Limit Review. Concern was raised over the process, particularly in relation to the restrictions placed on the review.

event. Volunteers are still being sought, including through a “Readiness to Work” programme for 18 to 25 year olds: details are at letourgb.com/volunteer.

Other items

The Panel received a verbal update on the de-trunking of the A69, and the latest minutes of the Highways and Transport Strategic Board. On the Highways Board I asked about about the review of subsidised buses, in particular checking that no current routes were being stopped.

Other funding supported projects in Stanwix, Scaleby and Carlisle Mencap. Around £8,500 remains in the Panel’s £106,967 budget for 2026/27. The Panel also heard about plans for local “Place Plans” and the reopening of Carlisle Library after its £3.3 million refurbishment.

The next meeting of the Panel is on Thursday 3 December 2026 at the Civic Centre in Carlisle.

The full papers for the meeting are available here: Border, Fellside and North Carlisle Community Panel, 3 September 2026.
